Charles Bartlett recently graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in Commercial Music (Composition/Arranging) from Utah Valley University but has been involved with music for most of his life. Despite age differences, he was able earned the friendship of many of his younger classmates and the respect of his instructors.
He has had many great experiences throughout his music career, mostly as a performer. He has been singing since before he can remember and playing the Euphonium since age 11. Often, he would be asked to join and successfully audition for ensembles consisting of performers in higher age groups and seemed to be fast tracked for musical success. A high note of his high school experience was attending a group exclusive master class with the famed King’s Singers from the United Kingdom. Throughout all these experiences and many more, he had developed a talent for composing and the capstone of his high school experience was the final concert of his senior year where he performed a solo and had a woodwind quartet he composed, performed. After High school most of his musical objectives were placed on hold but he continued to learn how to use music technologies such as recording and notation software. It was during this time that he taught himself how to play both guitar and banjo. In more recent years he has used his talents to support local church choirs by doing arrangements and serving as director. He played Euphonium in several school Honor groups as well as the UVU Wind Symphony where he won a scholarship for exceptional performance on Euphonium for his junior/senior year.
While working in various other trades to support his small family through the years, he always held the belief that he would return to school to finish his musical training and make a career of it. The time is now!! So much of his life has been shaped by his musical ambitions but also by his family. His biggest fan is by far is his adult son, Christian, who has severe autism. With the support of his family, he is seeing his dream realized. He has recently launched a website that offers a variety of music services, including lessons and on-site recording.
Mr. Bartlett’s ultimate goal is to have his own publishing company that caters to secondary school and college ensembles, where he can publish his own works and help young composers do the same. He also wants to establish a music school aimed at all ages. As a side objective he would like to offer professional recording to his students for comparative listening as well as for commercial production.
He feels that his experiences have given him the unique ability to assist people that may have put their own musical dreams on hold. He is approachable and willing the help in any way he can.
